Foundation Aims For Sweet End To Pediatric Brain Tumors

The Rory David Deutsch Foundation is spreading the word about pediatric brain tumors. And how sweet it would be if not a single child lost their battle to the disease as did Ross and Mindy Deutsch’s young son, Rory.

The goal of the foundation started by the Deutsches is to eradicate pediatric tumors in the brain, find advances in brain tumor research and have more and more people know of Rory, who died in 1988. The foundation says, “If a 7 year old boy can change the way the world sees pediatric brain tumors, imagine what we can do together.”

Ross Deutsch says much more needs to be done in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. “It’s just our hope that we can stay the course and somehow find a way.”

Indian Trail School in Highland Park will do its part in support of the nonprofit foundation and to give children with brain cancer brighter tomorrows. The school attended by Rory will host a “Ragnar for Rory” fundraising event in which students will participate in a week-long distance running program in May during physical education classes. In addition, six of Indian Trail’s teachers will take part in a relay race from Madison, Wis., to Chicago on June 8 and June 9.

The school’s goal is to raise $10,000 for the foundation through donations toward the May and June activities. Donations can be made through the school or online by clicking here.

Ross and Mindy strive to honor Rory each day whether its with events of the foundation’s website. Ross says much more needs to be done in the fight against pediatric brain cancer. “It’s just our hope that we can stay the course and somehow find a way.”
