Treasurer's Report 2008

by Enid Deutsch & Ellyn Samsky

The net proceeds of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation for the period March 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008 were close to $550,000. This raised the total fundraising, dollars since our inception to nearly $6 million dollars.

Our family event “Rockin’ Under the Stars” held in November, 2006 generated close to $350,000 while “Hot Dogs Hamburgers & Hope” underwritten by Michael’s Hot Dogs in Highland Park raised over $70,000. A heartfelt thanks to all who participated in both events.

Once again, The Rory David Deutsch Foundation was the grateful recipient of several fundraising efforts from various supporters across the northern suburbs. Campus Colors in Highland Park raised close to $4,000. Twice Barry Bakal played 100 holes of golf in a single day, raising almost $40,000. The Zetz Beta Tau fraternities at the University of Illinois and at Indiana University have sponsored fundraisers at each of their respective schools raising $5,400 and $1,500 respectively. Runners from the 2007 Chicago Marathon donated almost $28,000. Finally, the Paulina Cooper Dot-to-Dot race in Overland Park, Kansas has made The Rory David Deutsch Foundation the beneficiary of two races for a total of over $33,000.

General donations to The Foundation accounted for close to $105,000. These came from a host of individuals and organizations. Many readers of our previous newsletters, “Reaching Out” responded generously to the coupon included. Others purchased all-occasion donation cards. These cards can be purchased for $5 each by calling The Foundation office at 1-888-919-RORY or by visiting our web site at www.roryd.org.

We have made the eighth of fifteen $200,000 installments to Duke University and the third of five $200,000 installments to Children’s Memorial Hospital. As a result of the selfless efforts of all our volunteers and the continued generosity of our supporters, our executive committee had the ability to increase the endowment from $1,500,000 to $1,750,000. Together each of these milestones guarantees that The Foundation will go on in perpetuity and make our dream that much closer to a reality—a cure for the devastating disease that took our beloved Rory much too soon.
