HOPE…DREAM…IMAGINE…
“Hope, Dream, Imagine”—we first heard those words as they applied to The Rory David Deutsch Foundation at a meeting with Dan Zadra and Kobi Yamada. Those words still resonate today. Our hope of achieving The Foundation’s mission—to eradicate pediatric brain tumors—is the enduring focus of each doctor, researcher and supporter of The Rory David Deutsch Foundation. After eleven years it is our resolve, dedication and collective passion that perseveres and inspires all of us to work toward our common goal.

The dream of realizing the purpose of our mission is permeated throughout this newsletter. There are countless examples of selfless individuals, groups and organizations who have taken the initiative to enhance our fundraising efforts. We have always maintained that our success cannot be measured solely by the amount of dollars raised. Our success is a result of your daily participation and devotion to the cause, which has left an indelible mark and has forever impacted us more than words can express. As Coach Mike Krzyzewski eloquently expressed at our event “An Evening with Coach K” in 2002, “It’s about being on a team, Rory’s Team. Being a part of something bigger than yourself.” It is a tribute to each of you. You personify that statement and that is the reason we will realize our dream of curing the devastating disease that took Rory.

That quote clearly defines our team of tireless, brilliant doctors and researchers who spend each day in the clinic and laboratory searching for advances in understanding pediatric brain tumors. We have had the privilege to visit Dr. Stewart Goldman and Dr. Bento Soares; as well as Dr. Henry Friedman, Dr. Allan Friedman and Dr. Darell Bigner, directors of research at The Children’s Memorial Research Center in Chicago and The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University respectively. Their vision, commitment and belief know no bounds. Their aspirations will lead to the possibilities of a cure.
